    Kitchen Makeover One Room Challenge

one-room-challenge-goldOk, the time has come. I’ve finally convinced my husband that we need to do a mini kitchen renovation. I’m so excited and freaking out all at the same time. Depending how you look at it, the timing couldn’t be better. The One Room Challenge is going on and why not jump right in with a big one!
You all get to share this experience with me. Excited? I am. 🙂 So this is how it works… Linda of Calling it Home is extending an invitation to little ‘ol bloggers like myself to join in as a “Guest Participant”. How exciting is that??? We will be joining some very talented Designers, and I’m sure we will all be inspired.  The goal is to do a one room makeover in 6 weeks. 6 WEEKS!! Ok, I’m not going to stress, deep breath.
My goal is to give our kitchen a new look on a small budget. Sound good? 🙂 While we have a custom built home with great solid wood cabinets, we weren’t the original “customers” so I didn’t have much say in the design or products used. We did put the black granite countertops in a few years ago and the white subway tile backsplash, so I guess this will be Kitchen Reno Number 2. I don’t take a lot of kitchen photos because it’s not my favorite space, but I did manage to take a few.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not too bad and I’m very grateful for what we have. My hope is to change it to what I really love for minimal cost. I want what I do, to be something YOU can do. I’ve been researching products, scrolling Pinterest, searching sites and of course asking many of my talented friends on Instagram a million questions.

Recently, to make things even more exciting…we had an oven fire. Though the fire didn’t do much damage, the oven was ruined and the mess from the Fire Extinguisher was enough to drive any person crazy. That’s two weeks of my life I’ll never get back. But every surface, curtain, rug and floor has been scrubbed and cleaned upstairs and down. Let’s just say Spring Cleaning came early this year.

Ok, so here’s my plan…I’m hoping to update the kitchen and  give it a look that reflects my style…Industrial/Vintage/Farmhouse. I want to make my kitchen brighter, adding wood tones, showing off my love of copper and metals. If I could, I’d have the kitchen Ms. Pattmore had in Downton Abbey!! Oh, a girl can dream, right?

So on my Wish List of Things I Hope to Do!
    1. Remove a few cabinets and open up the kitchen. This also means organizing and decluttering the cabinets. I should get extra points for this alone! 🙂
    2. Paint the cabinets. Oh boy!
    3. Add tile, notice I’m not saying where because I really want a little bit of surprise left.
    4. Change out the light fixture over the island and possibly over the dining table. Add new light fixtures in the kitchen area.
    5. Buy new hardware and “change” existing hardware on both the island and all the cabinets.
    6. DIY a kitchen cart for storage and rearrange the layout of the dining area.
    7. Add a colorful element of surprise to the cabinets.
    8. Find a new rug for the kitchen that will work with the new color scheme.
    9. Finally decorating the new space! Shopping the house, and buying a few new pieces.
Whew! Ok that list looks intimidating but let’s just take it one thing at a time. Again, this is my “wish list” we all know how Life has a way of changing things. I’m going to hope for the best, not overwork my family in the process and definitely not break the bank.
Follow me on Instagram for sneak peeks and be sure to check back next Thursday for the official update.
