Cozy and Modern Living Room Design

Our Living Room got a new look and I can’t wait to show you! I blended all the styles I love with a little bit of everything…Mid Century Modern, Vintage, Scandinavian and some Urban Industrial. After searching high and low for the perfect furniture to create just what we needed for our family of 5…I love how it turned out! Tell me what you think!

I wanted something fresh and new while mixing all the styles I love and not breaking the bank. I shopped the house, I shopped for bargains and I partnered with some of my favorite companies for a few key pieces!

We had a large and cozy leather sectional but it overpowered the room. I finally convinced Mr. BeesNBurlap that it was time for a change. Don’t worry no furniture was forgotten or discarded in the process ;), it just moved upstairs to the loft. My next project to tackle!

I looked and looked for just the right piece. I wanted something that would seat at least 5, was low profile like our previous one but not so small that it wasn’t comfortable. When I found this one at Ikea, I was in love! I just had to convince everyone else. When I said Black Sectional they all looked at me like I was nuts. They couldn’t see my vision, but that’s ok, they’ve learned to trust me! 😉

It took a number of different elements to bring this space together!

Balance Out the Black

So the first thing I had to do to balance out all the black in the room now was add lots of white or light colors on the floor. I knew exactly what I wanted. I shopped online at Joss & Main and found a large bleached white jute rug. It was large enough to cover most of the wood floor and add a bright balance to the new black sectional. It also added the perfect amount of texture to the floor. Then I layered my smaller black and ivory striped rug from Nordic Knots on top. It was starting to come together.

Add Light Wood Accents

I love the look of light wood with the black and white decor. Since I chose the light wood legs on the sectional I figured it was only fitting that I add more! 😉

I added the rattan coffee table because it was light and airy and had the perfect wood tone for the room!

Because I have to stay true to my love for vintage pieces…this antique wood stool was the perfect touch.

Extra Seating with Style

While the sectional seats 5, I needed some additional seating to spread out and relax. I wanted to find something with a similar style, yet different enough to add some interest to the room. This corner chair and ottoman from Inspire Q was the perfect piece. Notice the sweet little wood legs too. You can shop this piece on Overstock.

I chose the light gray linen to again balance out the Black in the room and add another source of texture. I was thrilled with not only how well it went together but how comfortable this piece is!

I love the versatility this piece offers with the large ottoman too!

Sleek Storage

Since I moved my main storage piece upstairs, I needed something new. I was again looking for something modern and low profile, but I needed the right color combo to go with the room. Leave it to Joss & Main to carry the perfect piece.

It’s sleek and modern and I love the white and wood combination.

This sideboard has great storage, clean lines and added a great pop of white to the room.

Pops of Color and Texture with Decor

Now that the larger pieces were in place, I wanted to add a few new accessories and decor. I love art, whether it’s photography or painted pieces. This one from Joss & Main was perfect. It had the right colors and a chic urban touch that just felt perfect for the new Living Room.

To keep with the neutral color scheme, I added a large bunch of pampas grass from Afloral. I added touches of gold and concrete around the room.

So there you have it! Our new Living Room with a little bit of everything! It’s more open, more functional and full of all the styles I love! What do you think??
