How to add a Pop of Color to your Home Decor

Are you a fan of using color in your decor? Does it intimidate you? Confuse you? Or excite you? I had the opportunity to work with my friends from At Home and incorporate a Pop of Color in our home! Come see what I found and get my best tips to add color into your home!!!

A lot of times when working with clients and friends I hear that using color or patterns can be overwhelming, or challenging. I’m here to tell you that it shouldn’t be anything but fun! While I love whites and neutrals and love to fill my decor with them, I need COLOR in my life! I love adding a fun pop of color to a space for interest and fun!

At Home is a Decor Superstore!!! They have so many styles, colors, and also quantity! You don’t have to worry about finding something you love and only having one of them!

TIP #1 Color doesn’t have to be BIG!

I wanted to add some color to this corner. Having the white sofa is a dream because everything goes with white…but I also have that tapestry above. I was thrilled when I found this blush velvet ottoman with the band of gold on the bottom.

I added that sweet little accent pillow in an apricot color, the furry pillow for texture (which by the way has a gorgeous pattern on the other side for another look) and the white and black cowhide print for fun!

TIP #2 Color doesn’t always mean BRIGHT and BOLD!

When you think of color it doesn’t always have to be a bright red, hot pink or neon yellow. Blush, apricot, even the black and white all add interest and fun to this space and bring out the colors in the tapestry.

TIP #3 Go GREEN…literally!

I even added that sweet faux succulent in the terra cotta pot for a touch of “green.” Plants real or faux are a great way to add a touch of color!

Ok, so this is one of my best tips when it comes to decor in general…but it definitely applies to COLOR!

TIP #4 Decorate with what makes you HAPPY!

While I was shopping the aisles of At Home I about fell over when I saw these stools!!!! They made me SO HAPPY!

I don’t have this color anywhere in the house! I wasn’t sure where I’d put them…but in my cart, they went! 🙂 They are gorgeous. The velvet and brass are so high end and the color is beyond beautiful. I call it peacock blue…the perfect balance of blue, green, teal whatever you want to call it…it’s stunning.

While this color is bold and not my usual…I love it and it makes me smile every time I look at it. If a piece makes you happy…try it. These stools were very similar to the some that I’ve seen online and for a fraction of the price. You better check your local At Home Store because when I went back to mine they only had one left! 😉

I added them to the kitchen and even added this vintage style runner underneath. The rug is the perfect complement here and the colors go so well with the stools. And this brings me to my next tip!

TIP #5 Don’t forget to look DOWN!

While you may not want to commit to wall to wall carpet in a colorful shade, you can add easily add color or a pattern in various styles with a rug. Go big with an 8×10 or simply add a runner. At Home has a crazy amount of rugs in all different sizes, patterns, colors, and textures! I love to shop the rug section there and never leave empty-handed.

TIP #6 Small pieces can have BIG IMPACT!

Elvis may have had Blue Suede Shoes, but I have Blue Velvet Chairs! I have a velvet crush and I’m not ashamed to admit it. I saw these chairs and grabbed a couple for my She-Den.

Again, just a simple pop of color creates so much interest and fun…don’t you think? They also have such an elegant design with a retro Hollywood Regency feel. 

And I even found that beautiful “BLUE” bust while shopping. A perfect match. To balance the bold blue, I added the white feathery stems and the simple seeded glass style vase.

Let’s not forget that super chic and completely funky leopard print ottoman! It was too cool to leave behind. Again, pops of pattern and color!

There you go…Pops of Color all over!!! It wasn’t too hard to do either. So I challenge you to make over a space…maybe it’s a bedroom, a living room or your kitchen. Add some color through a rug, furniture, pillows or accessories. Most of all don’t be afraid…have FUN!
